The Latest Appointments at David Yurman, Sonia Rykiel, Michael Kors, Anya Hindmarch, Saks Fifth Avenue, Jean Paul Gaultier, De Beers and The Row

The Latest Appointments at David Yurman, Sonia Rykiel, Michael Kors, Anya Hindmarch, Saks Fifth Avenue, Jean Paul Gaultier, De Beers and The Row.

After a string of encouraging results announcements by luxury conglomerates and brands, it is somewhat surprising to learn of layoffs and retrenchments within various pockets of the industry. Just today, AFP reported that Fisker Automotive – maker of luxury electric and hybrid supercars – will layoff 26 workers in Delaware and another 40 contractors and employees concerned with design and development in California.

Perhaps less surprising is the ‘internal reorganisation’ taking place at French fashion brand Emanuel Ungaro, a brand that has publicly struggled since its eponymous designer retired in 2004. Whispers of retrenchment were amplified by WWD, which claims the brand will not deliver its spring-summer collection nor present a collection for fall-winter.

“We are going through an internal reorganization to support a new business model that will allow the company to be profitable in the near future," revealed entrepreneur Asim Abdullah, who acquired the brand from Salvatore Ferragamo in 2005. "The company remains financially viable and we believe that the brand will continue to thrive under the new strategy that we will discuss in the coming months,” he concluded.

Richemont controlled French accessories maker Lancel, has parted ways with CEO Marc Lelandais, following “differences of views on major matters regarding the management of the company.” Yves Saint Laurent will part ways with Siddhartha Shukla, global communications director this coming March, following 12 years of service at Gucci Group (now known as PPR Luxury).

And finally, after 30 years at the helm of Château Mouton Rothschild, Hervé Berland is reportedly leaving his post of managing director. He will be replaced by Hervé Gouin, currently marketing director of Rothschild France Distribution.

Dominique Loiseau has joined 220-year-old timepiece manufacturer Girard-Perregaux. Mr. Loiseau possesses more than three decades of experience in horology and is said to be hard at work developing a new movement for the brand, although it will be some time before this will hit the marketplace.
